I am now engaged & planning the wedding of my, fairly recent, dreams. If you missed the previous post you can read it here.
In my last post, I left you in the lull between booking all the big wedding items & everything coming together closer to the day. It wasn’t nearly as stressful leading up to the wedding as I thought it’d be, but that may just have been because of everything else we had happening not wedding related. The stress of those things made planning a wedding a piece of cake.

Planning The Big Day
I had such grand plans for our wedding! The more I looked at Pinterest the bigger & better they became. Pinterest can be the devil when planning a wedding, you can get stuck on there for hours & end up with 100 things you want to do but only space/time to do a few.
My bridesmaids were so patient with me. They all came down to stay & got all my ideas out of my head & onto paper. We discussed how it’ll run, what music we’ll have, what photographer, do I want a videographer, are we going to have cocktails, will there be a bar tab, what sort of decorations will we have, what are you doing about flowers, what DIY projects have I thought up, what games will we have, will there be food & drinks after the ceremony, will there be games, are you having a photo booth, is it cocktail or à la carte dining, who is your MC, who are doing speeches, do you have a run sheet, the list went on & on as you can imagine.
After finally discussing all this together (& yes, the fiance was there too) we had a bit more of a plan as to how the day was going to run. More importantly, we worked out who was going to do certain jobs so that I didn’t have to do it all.
It was a very productive & fun night.
So fun in fact that the two of us on red wine ended up with our heads in the toilets…fortunately there were 2 toilets, unfortunately, there was photographic evidence (no I am not going to share that one).
Apparently, prior to our heads being in the toilets we were arguing who’s going to cry more at the wedding. “I’m going to cry more”, “No, I’m going to cry more!”….idiots!
We also got to go dress shopping & found the perfect bridesmaid dress.
When it came to taking action & getting all the little things sorted, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had thought.
The hardest part was dealing with other people’s opinions.
I got put off a few times by people commenting on my plans for the day. “Why would you want to do that, wouldn’t you want to do something that was easier?”, “Wow, you’re really ambitious”, just little comments which probably weren’t meant in a bad sense but made me second guess what I wanted for the day.
Luckily for me, I had a really supportive maid of honour (MOH) who reminded me that this was our day & if we wanted a Champagne Tower than we should damn well have a Champagne Tower.
My one bit of advice to you: Do what you want to do
(obviously within reason & budget). Listen to the advice others give you but remember that at the end of the day this is your wedding & you only get one, so it should be where you want & how you want it.
Not how everyone else wants it.
We eventually got everything that we could, sorted. There were still a few things that couldn’t be done until the days just before the wedding.
The Few Days Before
The day of the wedding arrived so quickly. Everyone warns you that it’s going to but you never quite take heed of what they’re saying until all of a sudden it’s upon you.

I was in such a bad mood & I didn’t know why, which then made the bad mood worse. A vicious cycle if you ask me. This is my wedding day & as I said in my last post, it was meant to be the happiest time of my life!
But I wasn’t happy. I was tired & irritable, everyone kept asking me what they could do to help with the wedding but I didn’t know, I couldn’t work out what I wanted to be done or when it was meant to happen or even what was meant to happen.
My mind was a tornado of thoughts & plans that were just spinning & spinning & stressing me the hell out!
I guess this was bound to happen at some stage when you’re planning & organising the whole event yourself.
Luckily my MOH came to the rescue. We sat down & wrote out a list for each day. She pulled all my crazy plans out of my head, yet again, & took charge.
This was the Thursday morning before the wedding on Saturday. We had a lot to do in a very short amount of time & I just couldn’t see it all getting done. To make things worse, the weather was horrible, it was dark & cloudy, windy & rainy, not very encouraging for an outside wedding to say the least.
We ended up getting a lot done on that Thursday. Foliage for the window decorations was picked. All the programs were finished with gold foil & put together with an envelope of petal confetti. The Magnolia pot holders were sewn together as well as the secret rings holders. All that could be set up was set up at the reception including the fairy lights and photo booth. The games were organised & all the alcohol for after the ceremony was consolidated & tested.
On Friday morning I awoke to the sun shining through our windows. The clouds had not only cleared from the sky but also from my mind. I was happy & ready to get stuck into whatever else needed to be done.
We had a morning tea where all the female guests that had already arrived came & helped put together the flower & foliage decorations. A few were a bit hesitant & worried about their creative skill set. But in the end everyone did such a fantastic job, it’s amazing what people can accomplish when given a bit of encouragement.
A few of the ladies even amazed themselves with their beautiful arrangements.
We caught up with the celebrant next. Oh & that was almost very stressful as well. We had forgotten to bring our birth certificates & passports so we didn’t have any second form of identification for him!
A quick phone call, the spare key & a crazy search through our documents folders produced an old passport of mine (my current one was somewhere in the Philippines getting my UK visa put in it) & a passport plus birth certificate for the future husband. Surely enough identification for the marriage certificate.
We are so fortunate to have such beautiful friends & family willing to help wherever they can.
So many things would not have happened if it weren’t for the continuous help of our friends & family. Everyone went above & beyond what anyone should have to do when attending a wedding & for that, we are incredibly grateful.
A quick practice run for the ceremony & we were pretty much ready. The MOH was in charge of getting the reception all set up so I didn’t have to worry about it. She had all the men down there doing their bit, putting up the decorations, arranging the furniture, checking the sound system & of course rewarding them with a round of beers.
By the end of Friday, we had everything under control. The bridesmaids stayed with me at the house where the ceremony was to be held while the groom & groomsmen stayed elsewhere.
I had put together little thank you boxes for the girls, so I gave them those that evening. They had a pair of pearl earrings in them, a robe to get ready in, a face mask & some fancy slippers to go with the robe. As I said, just a little thank you for all the hard work they’d put into making our day happen.
We ended up had a lovely girls night with face masks, nail painting, lots of wise advice & of course champagne. A perfect last night as a single lady.
