We have just stayed in amazing accommodation in Ios, The House On The Rocks, Greece. So amazing that I want to tell you all about it so that you too can have the opportunity to experience it.
The House On the Rocks, Ios
There are 5 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a beautiful kitchen & living space, & a fantastic outdoor entertainment area. To top it all off there is a stunning infinity pool.
The house is in a breathtaking location. We were totally blown away by the sweeping 180° views out towards the Aegean sea & surrounding islands. And it is the most perfect location to watch the sunset. They say Oia in Santorini is the best place for sunsets in Greece, I disagree. We were in Oia the week after staying in Ios & the sunsets there were not as good, and all the places you go to watch the sunsets were packed with people.
The Sleeping Arrangements
Ten people can comfortably sleep at ‘The House On The Rocks‘. We had 9 staying & the house never felt overcrowded.
All the rooms are beautifully decorated. They are large rooms with double beds in 3, a king in the master room & 2 singles in the last bedroom.
The best bit about the beds is that they are designed to be comfortable for pretty much anybody, for us it was like sleeping on a cloud. They are the 4-Layer Bed by Coco-mat, the top layer can be removed or added depending on your personal comfort. You can also choose from a range of different pillows. To top it all off you have beautiful Egyptian Cotton sheets to sleep in.
As mentioned above they all have their own ensuites. They have everything you need & even a face mask if you feel like relaxing your skin a bit as well. You’ll find beautiful white fluffy towels (Egyptian Cotton again) waiting for you, which get replaced every other day.
Personally, I’m not normally fussed on what the linen is like but after experiencing this it’s going to be hard to go back to our budget accommodation linen!
The Living Arrangements
The kitchen is very well equipped & allowed us to prepare some amazing meals. On top of this supermarket was just a 5 minute stroll into town with a great selection of produce, making this the easiest option when there were so many of us & such a beautiful outdoor setting & view to be appreciated. It really is one of those places where you could easily stay & not go out & see anything else on the island.
There are 2 dining tables, one inside & the other outside. We didn’t end up using the inside table because of how lovely the weather was outside. The lounge area provided you with some comfy couches to relax on & a TV, you can also ask to borrow a boombox if you’d like one.
Also provided was a washing machine & line for your dirty laundry, wi-fi throughout the whole house, an outdoor barbecue, & fresh drinking water was topped up every day.
Things To Do
Sit & relax in one of the multiple deck chairs set up around the stunning infinity pool. What more would you want to do, except maybe jump in the pool to cool down every now & then?
Then again at the bottom of the hill, you’ll find Valmas Beach. So I suppose you could mix it up a bit & spend a morning or afternoon swimming in & lazing around the Aegean. There is also a little taverna so you could potentially just spend the whole day down there.
If you’re feeling a little bit more adventurous, you could swim out along the rocks on the right-hand-side of the bay till you come across the mouth of a little cave. You can swim/walk/crawl carefully through this & out to the other side at the mouth of the bay. Though be careful of the sharp rocks & swelling waves.
Head into Chora, the main town on the island. You’ll find lots of great restaurants, shops & of course a huge nightlife.
Ios isn’t classified as the ‘Party Island’ for no reason. It’s a great night out with silent discos, beer pong, 7 shot T-shirt challenge & heaps of other things to do. You’ll find a lot of expats running bars there. They came to Ios for a season & decided to stay. That’s how awesome this island is!
Emmanuella & Yanis also offer you the chance to do a Greek Wine tasting of a selection from their favourite wineries.
We also got to do a cooking lesson with one of their staff. She taught us how to make a traditional Greek Moussaka. It was delicious & a fantastic experience. So as you can see there is quite a lot on offer if you do feel like mixing it up a bit.

So will we stay there again? YES, a definite yes from this happy camper. We had such a lovely stay & felt welcomed from the minute we arrived. Our hosts were incredibly helpful & bent over backwards if we ever required anything & the view, seriously THE VIEW. It is a hidden gem with sunsets that make it glow & shine.
