The Man Who Has Everything

If you’re like me, you probably struggle to find gifts for men, & think it’s getting harder and harder to buy them a gift be it for Valentine’s day or any other gift giving occasion.

These days the modern man seems to be ‘the man who has everything’. With access to purchasing things online, they don’t even have to go to the shops, so the man who never had anything because they hated shopping is gone. All they have to do is click a couple of buttons, wait a day or two, and Whola! They have a new outfit, gizmo or gadget. Which, as I mentioned, for me, is making it increasingly hard to buy my lover a gift.

To help solve this ever-increasing problem, I have asked my husband to give us ladies a few ideas on the best gifts for men. And might I add, I’m pretty impressed with his list. So have a read and hopefully solve those gift giving issues you have!

Note: The following is straight from the future hubby himself, so no editing, no fixing just good ol’ fashioned man opinions.

An Experience

First off the bat and one of my favourite ideas! He doesn’t need another pair of socks or another book on how to improve himself (unless that’s what he really wants of course). An experience is something he will actually use and something that you both can do together.

Last year my fiancé bought a dive trip for the both of us. We both had dived before but not in a while. When I opened that card and saw the tickets, damn was I excited. And a few days later we were off to Fish Rock to do a well-known cave dive and to meet the local celebrities, the grey nurse sharks! We had a blast and got a great story to talk about.

There are so many experiences out there to choose from, the options are endless, so have a think about what your man likes or even something he hasn’t tried before and get online. Here are some websites and companies that tailor to this kind of thing and are always offering great discounts!

A couple of examples that I think would be great are:

  • Skydiving
  • Scuba Diving / Shark Cage diving
  • Stock car or luxury Car driving experience
  • Shooting range experience
  • Sporting Event
  • Horse Riding
  • Hot air ballooning
  • Jungle Surfing (look it up!)
  • Fishing charter
  • Hiking adventure
  • Ghost tour!
  • Bungy Jumping
  • Paint Ball

A New Skill

A new skill is another killer idea! The great thing about this kind of gift is that he will gain something he will have for the rest of his life. He could even form a new passion or hobby from it and who knows maybe you can do it as well and start a new passion together!

I have told the fiancé many times that I would love to do a blacksmithing course! Now I know she’s not interested in joining me for that but it makes for a great gift idea and would give me a new life skill that I could build on for many years to come!

[Doesn’t get much clearer than that. Consider it noted Babe].

There are heaps of options to choose from so there is bound to be one suited to your guy!

Some examples are:

A Makeover – Tailored Suit Experience

This one is a little different and may not be for everyone. I recently went along with my fiancé to try on some suits for our wedding. Honestly, at first I wasn’t too interested in the suit shopping thing, but it warmed on me and by the end, I was a suit connoisseur. That may not be a thing, I’m not sure.

Anyway, I had booked into a specialist tailor called inStichu who has an outlet in Sydney and other places around Australia. When you get there you are greeted by the tailor who brings you in and sits you down in this fantastically set space, he then hands you a drink of your choice Bourbon/Wine/whatever and goes through to the process of helping find that perfect suit! And nothing looks as good as a well-fitting suit!

While sitting here it struck me that in different circumstances this could make a great present for a guy that wanted to freshen up his image!

Combining a new tailored suit experience (any good tailor would work) with a fresh haircut and shave would make for a fun day for you and him. There are some great barbers popping up all over the place, where they serve a cold beer and straight razor shave.

Or if it all sounds too hard you could engage a personal shopper who does all the hard work for you. Don’t even ask how I know this is a thing.

As I said this may not be for everyone as some guys just don’t wear suits or want to do that kind of thing. But for those that do, you’d definitely be baking some serious brownie points.

Do Something That You Would Not Normally Do

Do something with him that he loves to do. My other half has no interest in video games but sometimes instead of just putting up with me playing she grabs a control and plays too. She’s pretty competitive so I can tell she enjoyed it, especially when I let her beat me.

By pushing yourself to do something you would rather not do with the person you love is really special. You may think that he wouldn’t notice what you’re doing but really he does. So if he is a gamer too, go out and buy some beers, grab a remote and sit down and play a game. Or if he’s more outdoorsy organise his favourite activity as a gift.

I suggest giving this to him as a coupon. A day of doing whatever he loves doing, where you will give it your undivided attention and enthusiasm because that’s the important part. Remember, this is a gift, he hasn’t asked you to do it with him, so no complaining, suck it up and enjoy doing something purely for him.

Here are some more examples:

  • Fishing day
  • Man’s Movie marathon
  • Bungy Jumping
  • Go Kart racing
  • Getting a tattoo
  • Going to a live sports event or just watching it with him at home
  • Play video games with him
  • Go to the gym with him

Make Something He Will Love

A gift that is hand made by you is said to be the best gift of all! My wonderful fiancé has made me some fantastic things over the years and each time I’ve been blown away by how creative she has been.

Now you might be reading this and thinking but I don’t know how to make anything? And if you are I can guarantee you’re not the only one! But I’m here to tell you it’s a lot easier to make something amazing than you think. With YouTube videos on just about anything, the hardest part is choosing which one to go with. The tutorials give you an easy step by step on how to make anything you could imagine. The only boundaries are the limit to your imagination.

In the end, a gift that has been made especially by you is 100 times better than that cheap moustache mug or box of Chocolates you bought from the tacky gift shop or last minute service station stop.

So this is a call to action! Get creating and make something he will be telling his mates about.

To help you get those creative juices flowing here are some examples of what you could make:

  • Homemade BBQ sauce
  • Jerky!
  • Homemade Manly soap
  • Knitted Scarf (Or for the ambitious souls a sweater) ( Knitting isn’t just for old people)
  • Make him a personalised gift basket with lots of little things he likes
  • Homemade jams, Pickles, relish – see this recipes page for some great examples
  • Homemade shaving cream
  • Knitted beanie

So there you have it, a list of gifts for your man by my man. I hope you find something for him!
